Alberta Cornelia Thompson, 87, entered into eternal rest Thursday, June 2, 2022, after an extended illness. She was a native Pierce Countian, and the daughter of the late Lonnie Sr. and Susie Thompson. She had served in various capacities at both the Pierce County Hospital, and the Pierce County Nursing Home (including Supervisory Licensed Practical Nurse) prior to her retirement after nearly 50 years of service. She was a lifelong and active member of Scott Chapel United Methodist Church in Blackshear. She was a volunteer in the community for the American Cancer Society and the Community Ushers Group. She was an avid gardener, loved living a simple life and having a good conversation. In addition to her parents, she was also preceded in death by her siblings, Lonnie Thompson Jr., Eddie Thompson, Abraham Thompson, Rebecca Bray and Martha Thompson. Surviving siblings include Mattie Daniels (Charles) and Albert Thompson, all of Blackshear, William Thompson, Detroit, MI, Bobbie Wing (John), East Point and Dollie Clayton (James), Fort Washington, MD and a host of nephews and nieces, all of whom she adored, and other relatives and friends.
Visitation will be held from 5-7 p.m. Friday, June 10, at Rainge Memorial Chapel, 505 Ware Street, Blackshear. Homegoing services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, June 11, from the Scott Chapel United Methodist Church, 420 Highway Avenue, Blackshear. Interment will be in the Shiloh Cemetery, Blackshear. Rainge Memorial Chapel Funeral Home of Blackshear is in charge of arrangements.
