Janie Simpson was born June 23, 1958 in Bacon County, Georgia to Roberta Reynolds and the late, Frank
Simpson Sr. Janie passed away on Thursday, May 2, 2019 at Southeast Georgia Health System –
Brunswick campus following a lengthy illness.
Janie’s early education was in the Bacon County school system. In her childhood Janie moved to
Patterson, Georgia and was raised by foster parents, Ben and Mattie Booth. During this time she
attended Pierce County schools and was a member of Macedonia Baptist in Patterson. She graduated
from Patterson High in 1976.
Soon after high school graduation Janie moved to Waycross, Ga. She had a passion for working in the
medical field and quickly found employment at Memorial Hospital of Waycross. Her education also
includes Riley Institute and Okefenokee Technical Institute where she eventually obtained her License
Practical Nurse (LPN) certification. Throughout her career she had long years of service at Kroger,
Waycross RYDC, and D. Ray James prison. She made some long lasting friendships along the way. She
was known for her friendly but sassy attitude. She had the biggest heart, but would tell you what was on
her mind.
Janie is preceded in death by her father, Frank Sr. and also her older brother Otis Robinson. She leaves
to mourn her passing children: Todrick (Nakia) Simpson, Sr. of Blackshear, Ga, Khala (Terrence) Ward of
Marietta, Ga., and Akeem Malik Simpson of Waycross, Ga.; two sisters, Rosa Lee Young and Eloise
Simpson; two brothers, JB Turner and Frank Simpson Jr.; four grandchildren Kyndall Ward, Kendyl Ward,
Todrick Simpson Jr. and Kamryn Ward. A special niece, Chandra Hunter and nephew, Omar Jinks and a
hosts of other nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
Flowers may be purchased through the Rainge Memorial website and will be sent to the funeral home for the family.
Final and most sacred arrangements are entrusted to Rainge Memorial Chapel, Inc.
