IN LOVING MEMORY OF
James Larry
Batton Sr.
October 6, 1943 – October 10, 2025
PSALM 23
The LORD is my shepherd; I shall not want.
Mr. James Larry Batton, Sr., age 82, of Alma, Georgia, entered into eternal rest on Friday, October 10, 2025, at his home after an extended illness. He was lovingly cared for in his final days under the support of Comfort Care Hospice.
James was born on October 6, 1943, in Blackshear, Georgia, to the late James “Jim” Batton and Elizabeth Fuller Batton. He was a devoted son, brother, husband, father, and friend, whose life was defined by hard work, perseverance, and an unwavering love for family.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Annie Pearl Batton; son, James Larry Batton, Jr.; grandson, Marvin Batton; great-granddaughter, K’Shabre Batton; and siblings, Valya Jackson, Willie McByrd, Robert Batton, George Batton, Rosby Batton, Riley Batton, and Johnny Delane Batton.
James began his life of labor as a young farmer before dedicating 20 years of faithful service to Golden Poultry in Douglas, Georgia. After retirement, his strong work ethic continued as he owned and operated his own lawn service for 19 years. He was known for his dedication, reliability, and willingness to lend a helping hand to others.
He leaves to cherish his memory: his seven children, Mae Della Smith, Mary Batton, Debra Batton, Anthony Batton, Aimee Batton, Renota Batton, and Danielle Batton. He is also survived by his siblings, Clifton Batton, Emma Jean Foster, Franklin (Billie) Batton, John Lewis (Sandra) Batton, Carylon Deverger, Helen Faulk, and Mae Francis Wright; uncle, Easop (Betty) Fuller; 31 grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
James also shared a special bond with his dear friend, Ms. Janie Bussey, and was a father figure to four children whom he lovingly helped raise, Brandon, Natoya, Angela, and Christina Bussey.
Mr. Batton will be remembered as a man of strength, wisdom, and humility. His presence brought comfort, his words carried guidance, and his life offered an example of faith, resilience, and unconditional love. To his family, his memory will remain a treasured gift; to his friends, he will forever be a light of inspiration.
Though he has departed this earthly life, the legacy of James Larry Batton, Sr., lives on in the hearts of all
who were blessed to know him.
