Deacon Robert Benjamin Franklin Ashley, Jr., age 70, passed away in his home on February 17, 2019, after an extended illness, surrounded by his loved ones. Robert Ashley Jr. was born December 10,1948 to the late Robert Benjamin Ashley, Sr. and Ruby Cannon Ashley of Patterson, Pierce County, Ga. He was a 1967 graduate of Lee Street High School, in Blackshear, Ga. Robert was married to Estella Marie Booth on August 4, 1970. He worked for Echols Enterprise for 23 years, prior to his work alongside Larry Hill from 1992 until his health declined in May 2015.
Robert Ashley joined the St. James Missionary Baptist Church of Patterson, Ga, under the leadership of Pastor Jonathon W. Dixon on January 22, 1995. Robert Ashley was a tremendously devoted member of the congregation. Robert Ashley became a deacon of the church on January 22, 1999. He then went on to hold other leadership positions in the church such as: chairman of Deacon Ministry, Superintendent of Sunday School, and Vice President of the Usher Ministry. Robert also sang in the St. James Male Choir and served as chairman of the Trustee board and Building Committee.
Left to cherish his memories are his loving wife of 48 years, Estella Ashley, his mother, Ruby Ashley; five children: Wilfredo A. Ashley, Veronica R. Moore, Angela W. Ashley, Robert A. Ashley, Athanasia R. Ashley; One Daughter in law - Christina Ashley; One son in law - Steven Moore; His grandchildren - Mishandria Ashley, Esterica Ashley, Aisha Ashley, Zykererionia Ashley Bass, MarTeisha Ashley, Alexander (Al) Ashley, Bryce Moore, Zyon Ashley, Jose Ashley, and Trent Moore; great grandchildren - Ace Floyd and Benjamin Bass; One goddaughter - Niya Mitchell; Four siblings: Bettye Douglas, Barthel Ashley, Janice Simpson, Charlene Grant; two sisters at heart: - Patricia Wilson, Rosa Booth; brother-in-laws - Jonathon Grant, Andrew Booth, Steve Grant; three Aunts - Naomi Whitehead, Irene Dobson, Cleo Williams; One special cousin – Irene Briggs. Robert is preceded in death by Robert Benjamin Franklin Ashley, Sr., Reuben Ashley, Alfred Ashley, Linda Ashley, Daniel Ashley, and Rozenna Ashley.
The family is receiving friends at 3249 Tyre Bridge Rd, Patterson, GA
Visitation will be held Friday, February 22nd at Rainge Memorial Chapel, 505 Ware Street Blackshear, from 5:00 p.m.- 7:00 p.m.
The cortege will assemble at 3249 Tyre Bridge Rd, Patterson at 10:15 a.m.
Saturday, February 23rd.
A Celebration of Life will be held Saturday, February 23rd at 11 A.M at St. James Missionary Baptist Church in Patterson, Bishop Wilmont Williams, pastor will give words of comfort.
Interment will follow at the Ridge Cemetery in Patterson.
